Before leaving your country, remember to collect all the documents you will need for your stay in France.
Any document requiring translation must be translated by a translator sworn before a French court.
Residence permit (for non-EU nationals holding a long-stay visa)
original birth certificate and its French translation;

Original marriage certificate and its French translation;

Highest Diploma and its French translation;

Cerfa hosting agreement, where applicable.
Registration with the French Health Insurance System

Original birth certificate issued within the last year, together with its French translation;
Note: Since June 2026, legalisation or an Apostille of the birth certificate has been mandatory. The type of authentication required depends on the country of origin.

Marriage certificate and its French translation;

Cerfa hosting agreement, where applicable ;

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for European nationals, where applicable (More info on our web site).

Access to the laboratory
If you are neither an employee of any of the institutions of “Aix-Marseille site” (Aix-Marseille Université, CNRS, IRD or INSERM) nor enrolled at Aix-Marseille Université, you must provide the following documents:

Valid personal liability insurance covering the entire duration of your stay (More info on our web site);

Laboratory hosting agreement (“convention d’accueil en laboratoire)” or Research stay agreement (“Convention de Séjour de Recherche – CSR)” (Please contact your host laboratory for more information).
Family (for researchers accompanied by their family)

Birth certificate(s) of your spouse/partner and children, together with their French translations;

You and your family’s vaccination and health records. The vaccination records are required for enrolling in school;

Your children’s school report cards if they are accompanying you.
Driving licence

Bring original copies of the documents mentioned but keep them safe and never hand them over unless at the explicit request of an administrative body.
Make sure you send clear, legible and full copies for any administrative procedure. The authorities may refuse any truncated document which will slow down your application.
